The KYDA Partners team is seeking a Lab Manager for a growing Biotechnology company based in San Antonio, TX. Reporting into the Director of R&D you will be responsible for the effective management, operation, quality control and safety of the laboratory. You will coordinate activities, provide technical support for equipment and experiments, and ensure necessary supplies and resources exist in the laboratory to conduct experiments.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for laboratory facility management & laboratory safety.
- Responsible for husbandry, care and maintenance of murine colonies and environment.
- Manage laboratory budget and promote general operational efficiency.
- Manage laboratory operation by scheduling staff and/or consultants maintaining efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain laboratory productivity by monitoring the workload of functional areas and reporting to supervisor.
- Identify deficiencies, needs, opportunities, and challenges that may hinder laboratory performance or research project goals and provide efficient, cost-effective solutions.
- Promote a positive and productive work environment.
- Orient and train staff in laboratory techniques, equipment use, safety practices, or other applicable activities as necessary in support of their assigned research projects.
- Assist, oversee, and/or troubleshoot in a variety of scientific experiments in support of staff’s assigned research projects. Assistance of a technical nature may include maintaining experiments (ex. in-vitro or in-vivo) over the weekend or after-hours, daily inspection of proper functioning of equipment or gas supply. Oversight may include verifying staff compliance with procedures, for instance cleaning, waste disposal and tissue tracking.
- Develop or assist in development of guidelines, operating procedures, forms, proposals, presentations, charts, among other documentation related to laboratory management and quality control, as well as verify staff compliance.
- Establish quality and safety standards to maintain laboratory performance.
- Responsible for maintenance and calibration program of equipment and facility support systems (ex. gas monitor, humidity monitor) that may impact quality control.
- Implements new or improves current programs, capabilities, methods, supply, equipment, and instrumentation as needed to support research projects and laboratory efficiency.
- Manage supply stock by determining inventory level and complying with budget.
- Communicate and negotiate with various vendors and consultants to source and implement laboratory capabilities, equipment, supply, or other resources as needed to support research projects and laboratory performance.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant guidelines, peer-reviewed literature, protocols, regulations, standards, and safety procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., biology, bioengineering, biochemistry) required at minimum. Experience in industry may be considered.
- At least 2-5 years of relevant laboratory experience required.
- Experience in managing a laboratory & staff preferred.
